— As Emohua Local Govt. Sign MOU With PH Electricity Distribution Company
The chairman of the Emohua local government area, Dr Chidi Lloyd, has initiated plans to restore electricity in the local government area following months of power outages across the communities in the area.
The Emohua local government area has been without power for some time due to the vandalism of the high-tension line feeding the local government area from the Ahoada transmission station.
Dr Chidi Lloyd, on behalf of the Emohua local government council, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) on Tuesday to have power restored to communities across the local government area through a collaborative effort between the council and the PHED.
Recall that the council chairman had, through his administration’s electricity restoration program, donated transformers to communities with issues of power outages across the LGA before the vandalism of the Ahoada-Emohua high-tension electricity line by suspected criminals.
The move for a memorandum of understanding between Emohua council and PHED to restore the vandalized electricity line feeding the entire Emohua LGA from the Ahoada transmission station is in line with the council chairman’s commitment to repositioning the local government area for rapid development through the improved power supply.
Dr Lloyd enjoined the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company to fulfil their part of the MOU to ensure that electricity is restored across the Emohua local government area within the shortest possible time to improve the socioeconomic life of the people of the area.
Meanwhile, the Emohua council boss has encouraged electricity distribution companies to partner with security agencies, local vigilantes, and community stakeholders to provide surveillance for electrical installations in rural areas, to check the activities of vandals and criminals who destroy the company’s property and keep the electricity users in darkness.
The council chairman expressed optimism that a well-coordinated surveillance effort will end the incessant vandalism of electricity installations not only in Emohua LGA but across Nigeria.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding with the PH Electricity Distribution Company, held in the council chairman’s office in Emohua, was witnessed by the vice chairman of Emohua LGA, Hon. Mrs Edna Nyeche.
